Like most Arawakan languages, Baure does not have many number words (really only three.)
It is possible to count to high numbers in Baure, but only by using long compound words. Today, most numerals are
borrowed from Spanish (as you can see below with kwatroposh which comes from
Spanish cuatro.)
Adjectives in Baure can be very complicated, with different endings to match different noun classes.
So for example, "one bird" is "poesh aren" but "one jaguar" is "pash shin." There are at least
15 different noun classes in Baure. For this worksheet we have used the form of these
number words that agrees with the noun "butterfly" (with the ending -posh.)
