Like many South American languages, Bora does not have many number words-- really only three.
It is possible to count to high numbers in Bora, but only by using long compound words
combining the numbers one through three with the words for "hand" (hójtsií).
For example, the word for "eight," íñejcúéhójtitu pápihchúúmeva, literally means
"three on the hand on the other side."
Most Bora people today use borrowed Spanish numerals instead of these traditional
counting words.
