Boruca Indian Language (Brunka, Brunca)
Language: Boruca is a Chibchan language
of Central America, spoken in the Puntarenas region of southern Costa Rica.
The last fluent speaker of Boruca passed away in 2003, but there are still a few elders living in Costa Rica
who know something of the language. Like most Chibchan languages,
Boruca is a tone language
with SOV word order.

Names: Boruca is a Spanish corruption of their own name for themselves, Bruncajc. This is a place name meaning
"Ash Valley." Their traditional name for their language is Di'tegat, which means "our language," or Di'tegat Brunkajc,
which means "the language of we Borucas." Alternate spellings
of these names have included Brunka, Brunca, Bronka, Boruka, Burica, Burunka, Borunca, Burunca, Borunka, Burnca, Brounka, Bruncas,
Burucaca, and Brunkahk, and Ditegat.
