Cabecar Indian Language (Chirripo)
Language: Cabecar is a Chibchan language
of Central America, spoken by 4000 people in Costa Rica. Like most Chibchan languages,
Cabecar is a tone language
with SOV word order.

Names: The name Cabecar comes from a tribal name, Kabekada. The people also refer to themselves as
Ditsä Si (meaning "the real people,") and to their language as Sektu ("our language.")
Important Cabecar subgroups include the Chirripo,
Estrella,
Tucurrique,
Telire,
Ujarrás, and the
Talamanca Cabecares.
There are many alternate spellings of these names, such as Cabécar, Kabekar, Cabecara, Ditsa Si, Ditsasi, Chirripó, Chiripo,
