Chatino is an Oto-Manguean language of Mexico. There are seven varieties of Chatino, which are considered separate languages by some people and dialects of the same language by others: Lachao-Yolopotec, Yaitepec, Zacatepec, Zenzontepec, Lowland Chatino (Tatalpatec), East Highland Chatino (Nopala), and West Highland Chatino. Taken together there are at least 30,000 speakers of Chatino languages in Mexico today. They are tone languages and have primarily VSO word order.
