Indian Rugs
As is evident by many of the items that have been made, Indians have a propensity towards creating beautiful things that take time, patience and determination. Indian rugs are a perfect example of Indians’ ability to make priceless artifacts with their hands. Although time has changed many of the original traditions for the Indians, weaving rugs is a long standing pastime. They serve numerous purposes amongst which are warmth, decoration, and a creative outlet.
Indian rugs consist of fine threads and sharp, vibrant colors that are likely to compliment any decoration they may be paired with. They are typically made of wool that is treated repetitively until it is soft and supple, and the colors are typically dyed using colors that come from natural substances like plants and vegetables. Indian rugs take time, patience, and creativity to create, although the Indians who have been weaving for years have the ability to create them quickly and efficiently. Many people take interest in creating something so beautiful, and because of that interest there are numerous instructional books, videos, and classes that can teach even the most amateur craftsman to knit rugs like the Indians.
Although authentic Indian rugs are not hard to come by, one must look in the right place if they want authenticity. There are several imitations that look similar, but the quality and designs are not comparable. Native American stores and boutiques are a great avenue to find authentic Indian rugs. Because of the time and effort that go into creating the rugs, prices can vary from one hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on the size, thread quality, and the time put into creating the rug. Although some of the rugs can be quite an investment, they’re definitely worth the price, as their authenticity, quality and effort put into each weave is genuine and unique.
