Machiguenga is an Arawakan language of South America,
spoken by more than 12,000 people in Peru. There are two major dialects of the Machiguenga language, usually known
as Machiguenga and Nomatsigenga. Some linguists treat them as separate languages, but speakers of the two
can understand each other without much difficulty. A third language,
Caquinte (or Poyenisati), is somewhat more divergent than
the other two and usually treated as a distinct language.
