I am looking for the Chipewa alphabet
Q: To whom it may concern:
I am wanting to have a portrait done for my husband
who is half Chippewa, and would like to have his
name put on it in Chippewa writing, but cannot find
an alphabet to use. if you could help me
with this I would be very grateful.

A: Unfortunately, there has never been a separate
Chippewa alphabet (the English alphabet is used for
writing modern Chippewa). There's an old Chippewa
syllabary, though, which is sometimes still used
especially in Canada. You can see it on this page:
The characters are written from left to right: use one
large character per syllable, and one small character
for each ending sound.
Hope that helps!
