The Name Neka
Q: Hello I am doing a paper for my college class and it
is about the history
and meaning of our names. I've always had an idea of
what my name meant but
now since reading your web site I would like to be
sure. My name is Neka
and from what I know, it means wild-goose and is
given from a cheif to his
daughther after a good hunt.
Please correct me if I am wrong and if you know
anything else about my name
it would be greatly appreciated.

A: Yes, Neka comes from the Ojibwe name Nika, which means
goose (the wild goose that is called "Canada goose"
today.)
It wasn't just a name for chief's daughters, though.
Any girl could have this name.
Have a good day!
