Like most Cariban languages, Yukpa does not have many number words-- really only two. It is possible to count to high numbers in Yukpa, but only by using long compound words combining the numbers one and two with the words for "and," "another," "hand," and so on. The Yukpa word for "twelve," for example, literally "both hands plus two more." Most Yukpa people today use Spanish numerals to count higher than five.
