Pemon Counting Worksheet

Like most Cariban languages, Pemon does not have many number words-- really only four. It is possible to count to high numbers in Pemon, but only by using long compound words combining the numbers one through four with the words for "hand," "foot," "fingers," and "toes." The Pemon word for "twelve," for example, is "asa'rö enya ipona asa'rö pïta" which literally means "two hands plus two feet." Most Pemon people today use Spanish numerals to count higher than four.
