Abenakis: See Abenaki
"Abenakis" has two meanings, both related to the Abenaki tribe of New England and Quebec.
1) It is the plural form of the tribal name "Abenaki."
2) It is also an alternate spelling of Abenaquise, which is an older French version of "Abenaki."
Because of this ambiguity, the word "Abenakis" can sometimes be found in use as either a singular or a plural.
In modern usage, however, it is nearly always plural.
