Chanze Apaches
"Chanze" was an alternate name for the Lipan Apache tribe.
It was a French corruption of the tribal name Kantsi,
which is the name for the Eastern Apaches in the language of the Caddo tribe.
"Kantsi" was said to have been a derogatory term for the Apaches, meaning "liars" or "deceivers,"
though our Caddo volunteers don't recognize it as having any meaning but "Apache."
