Stone Indians
"Stone Indians" is an alternate name for the Assiniboine tribe.
It was an English translation of the Ojibwe word Asiniibwaan (which means "stone Sioux,")
from which the name Assiniboine was derived. The phrase Stone Indians was primarily used
in historical texts, and is no longer in common use.
