"Tamoucougoula" is an alternate name for the Avoyel tribe of Louisiana.
It was the name for the tribe in the language of one of their Muskogean-speaking neighbors.
(The exact origins of this name are uncertain, but the ending "ougoula" comes from the
Muskogean word okla, "people," and is commonly used in Muskogean tribal names.)
