Chi Chi Maun Ferry
Q: Our family has a home in Canada on Manitoulin
Island. We take the Chi Chi Maun ferry. It is our
understanding that Chi Chi Maun means Big Canoe in
Ojibway. Do you know if this is true or not?

A: Yes, "big canoe" is Chi Jiimaan in the Ojibwe (Chippewa) language, which is
pronounced chee jee-mawn. "Chi Chi Maun" is
surely a slight Anglicization of those words.
Hope that helps, have a good day!
