The Name Shada
Q: My father named me Shada (pronounced sha - day) and
told me it originated
from Native American Indian language?
Is this true? What does Shada mean in Indian?

A: Yes, it comes from Ojibway. The word is spelled Zhede
in Ojibway (pronounced shay-day.) It means "pelican." It became popular in English
because Longfellow used it in his poem about Hiawatha
and spelled it "Shada" in that poem.
Hope that helps!
