Moratok Indian Tribe (Moratoc)
The Moratok Indians were an Algonquian
tribe of Virginia, associated with the
Powhatan Confederacy.
They have also been known as the Moratoc.
The Moratok no longer exist as a distinct tribe. It is likely that they merged together with other Virginia Algonquian groups
following smallpox epidemics and tribal warfare. The Moratok language was never properly
recorded, but was probably closely related to the Powhatan language,
and may have been a Powhatan dialect.
