Mbya (Mbyá)

There have been three different South American indigenous groups referred to as "Mbya," each of whom speaks a different language:

1) The Mbayá, a Guaycuruan tribe of early colonial Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia. Their modern descendants are the Kadiweu of Brazil.

2) The Mbya Guarani, one branch of the Guarani nation, whose traditional lands are located in Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Their language is completely unrelated to the language of the Mbaya.

3) The Mbia, which is an alternate name for the Siriono tribe of Bolivia. In their Tupian language Mbia means "people" which is why they call themselves this.
