Names: "Arara" is a Tupi word for "macaw," which was quickly borrowed into Brazilian Portuguese.
Since many tribes used the Macaw as a tribal symbol or wore colorful parrot feathers in their regalia, there have
been many distinct tribes who have been called Arara over the years. Therefore this tribe is known as
"Arara do Mato Grosso" or "Arara do Rio Branco," after the region where they live, to disambiguate them
from unrelated tribes from other parts of Brazil such as the Arara do Para,
Arara do Acre, etc. They refer to themselves as Yugapkatã, and have also been known by place names including
Arará do Aripuanã, Arara do Beiradão, and Koaia (spelled also Koaiá or Koayá.)
