"Opitciwan" is the name of one of the major Atikamekw communities in Quebec. The people of Opitciwan are called Opitcino or Opitcino Iriniwok in Atikamekw. The name Opitciwan comes from the native name of a nearby strait, which means "flowing strait" in Atikamekw.
