Timiskaming
"Timiskaming" is one of several English versions of an Algonquin place name, Temikaming, which means "by the deep waters."
Since Algonquin was not traditionally a written language, the spellings of Algonquin words in European languages sometimes vary a lot.
The spelling "Timiskaming" is generally used in Ontario, while the spelling "Temiscaming" is preferred in Quebec.
However, "Timiskaming" is also the official spelling used by the Timiskaming First Nation.
The Timiskaming Algonquins speak a Northern Algonquin dialect.
