Arikapu Indian Language (Maxubi)
Language: Arikapu is a Macro-Je language still spoken by only
a few elders in Brazil. It has SOV word order. A related language, Maxubi, was spoken by a neighboring tribe but was
so similar to Arikapu that it was considered a dialect.
Names: The tribal name "Arikapu" is also spelled a few different ways including Arikapú, Aricapú, Aricapu, or Arikapó, and "Maxubi" is sometimes
spelled Mashubi or Maxubí. The names "Jabuti" and "Marico" have sometimes been used by anthropologists to refer collectively to
the Arikapu and some of their neighboring tribes such as the Djxeoromitxi and Makurap.
