Waco Tribe

The Waco Indians were a Caddoan tribe of Texas, relatives of the Wichita tribe. Their language was never well recorded, but appears to have been closely related to Wichita and may have been a Wichita dialect. The Wacos no longer exist as a distinct tribe. They were forced to move to Oklahoma in the 1800's, where they merged into the Wichita population. Most Waco descendants still live among the Wichitas today.

Names: The name "Waco" is a corruption of a tribal name in their own language, Wiiko, which was probably originally a place name. Their name has also been spelled Wico, Hueco, and Huaco in the past.
