Names: Bororo is a tribal name, meaning "village square" in their own language. Although the people
accept this designation, they refer to themselves as
Boe, which means "people,"
and to their language as Boe Wadáru.
There are two main dialects of Bororo: Eastern Bororo (also known as Orari,
Bororo Oriental, Oarimugudoge, or Coroado) and Western Bororo (also known as Bororo Occidental, Cabaçais, or Campanha.) Alternate
spellings and other variants of these names have included Borôro, Boróro, Bororó, Borro, Boe Wadaru, Coroada, Coroados, Cabacai, Cabaçai,
Cabaçal, Cabacal, Orarimugudoge, Orarimogodoge, and Orarimogodogue. Like several other rainforest tribes of Brazil, the Bororos have
sometimes also been known by the generic name Coroados.
