Guaru Indian Language (Garu)
Guaru is an extinct Arawakan language of Colombia.
Few records of the language remain, and some linguists consider it to have been a dialect of the living
Yucuna language.
Because the language is no longer spoken it is uncertain what the tribal name "Guaru" means,
but it may have been a Spanish corruption of a word meaning "parrot"
(which is waru in the Yucuna language.) This name has also been spelled Guarú, Garú, Garu, or Guarus.
