Vocabulary in Native American Languages: Okanagan-Colville Words

Welcome to our Okanagan vocabulary page! Okanagan, also known as Colville, is a Salishan language, related to other languages like Coeur d'Alene and Flathead Salish. We have included twenty basic Okanagan words here, enough to provide a simple comparison with related American Indian languages. All the nouns are singular and all the verbs are 3rd person singular ("he or she sings") because many indigenous languages don't have a separate infinitive ("to sing") the way English and French do.

If you need to know an Okanagan word that is not currently on our page, you can take part in our Native American words fundraiser or visit our main Okanagan language site for more free resources.

Thanks for your interest in Native American languages!
