Vocabulary in Native American Languages: Lower Chehalis Words

Welcome to our Chehalis vocabulary page! Lower Chehalis is a Salishan language, related to other languages like Quinault and Saanich. We have included twenty basic Chehalis words here, enough to provide a simple comparison with related American Indian languages. All the nouns are singular and all the verbs are 3rd person singular ("he or she sings") because many indigenous languages don't have a separate infinitive ("to sing") the way English and French do.

If you need to know a Lower Chehalis word that is not currently on our page, you can take part in our Native American words fundraiser or visit our main Lower Chehalis language site for more free resources.

Thanks for your interest in Native American languages!
