Welcome to our Esselen vocabulary page! Esselen is an indigneous language of California. It is not very closely related to any other languages, but some linguists consider it to be a distant relative of Hokan languages like Pomo and Karuk. We have included twenty basic Esselen words here, to compare with related American Indian languages. If you would like to know a Esselen word that is not currently on our page, you can take part in our Indian words fundraiser or visit our main Esselen language site for more free resources.
